Background information on Energy and Atmosphere credit:

2009 LEED for New Construction Manual (NC) designates
3 LEED rating systems:

NC-New Construction

CS- Core & Shell

Schools-LEED for Schools

NRG Block can attain points under the Energy and Atmosphere Credit,
among others.
There is a prerequisite for this credit.

EA Prerequisite 2

Intent: The prerequisite establishes the minimum level of energy efficiency
for the proposed building and systems to reduce environmental and economic
impacts associated with excessive energy use.

Schools-The project must establish an energy performance rating goal for
the facility design using EPA’s Target Finder rating tool.

Option 1:
Whole Building Energy Simulation      NC, Schools, & CS

Demonstrate a 10% improvement in the proposed building performance
rating for new buildings or a 5% improvement in the proposed building
performance rating for major renovations to existing buildings, compared
with the baseline building performance rating.

Option 2:

Compliance with ASHRAE Advanced Energy Design Guide

For buildings under 50,000 sq ft

Option 3:
Comply with Advanced Buildings™ Core Performance™
Guide developed by the New Buildings Institute.
Buildings under 100,000 sq ft

This credit includes ALL ENERGY COSTS.

EA Credit 1

3-21 points

Intent: Achieve increasing levels of energy performance beyond the
prerequisite standard.

Requirements: Whole Building Energy Simulation. Demonstrate
improvement in the proposed building performance compared with the
baseline.

How:

§ Establish energy efficient performance

§ Optimize energy performance

§ Encourage renewable alternative energy sources

Option 1:  Whole Building Energy Simulation (1–19 pts NC and
Schools), (3-21 pts for C&S)

Demonstrate a percentage improvement in the proposed building
performance rating compared with the baseline building performance
rating.

How the points are earned- the minimum energy costs savings %
for each point threshold is as follows:

Points are based on whole building simulations.

NRG consistently delivers HVAC energy savings of over 60%,
compared to energy intensities described in the actual usage
numbers from DOE Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption
Survey 2003 (revised 2008).

NRG delivers LEED points in this category based on ASHRAE
90.1 2007 baselines for building envelopes. NRG can combine with
other energy saving building technologies to attain maximum whole
building energy efficiency, and hence, maximum LEED points
in this category.

OPTION 2: Compliance with ASHRAE Advanced Energy Design Guide
(1 point)

OPTION 3:

Comply with Advanced Buildings™ Core Performance™ Guide developed
by the New Buildings Institute. (1-3 points)

Demonstrate percentage improvements over the baseline
The higher the improvements the more points.

These are the same as the prerequisite above.

Intent: Increase use of products containing recycled content,
reducing impact from extraction and processing of new materials.

Requirements: Use materials with recycled content.

The sum of post-consumer content + 1/2 of the pre-consumer
content equals at least 10% or 20%, based on cost, of the
total value of the materials in the project.

The minimum percentage recycled materials for each point is:

Recycled Content 10%  - 1 point

         20% - 2 points (includes 1 point from above)

The recycled content value of a material assembly is determined
by weight. The recycled fraction of the assembly is then multiplied
by the cost of assembly to determine the recycled content value.

Intent: Materials and products are extracted and manufactured
within a region.

Requirements:
Use building materials or products that have been extracted,
harvested or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500
miles of the project site for a minimum of 10% or 20%, based
on cost, of the total materials value.

If a fraction of the product is extracted, harvested, or recovered
and manufactured locally, then only that percentage (by weight)
can contribute to the regional value.

The minimum percentage regional materials for each point:

Regional Materials 10% - 1 point

          20% - 2 points (includes 1 point from above)
